Vastu House
This project revitalises an existing Mosman residence by retaining its original footprint while reimagining its aesthetic and functionality. A new zinc-clad façade and custom entry redefine the street presence, harmonising with original materials. Internally, the layout was reconfigured to open the kitchen and living spaces to the backyard via Vitrocsa sliding doors, extending terrazzo flooring to the rear balcony. Vastu Shastra principles informed the spatial arrangement, enhancing flow and wellbeing. Intimate zones—including a home office, kids’ media room, parents’ retreat, and gym—were introduced. Existing features like the staircase and sauna were updated, preserving connection to the home’s history. Bedrooms feature custom joinery, and bathrooms are finished with marble feature walls. The result is a calm, light-filled home that reflects the client’s lifestyle while contributing to Mosman’s built environment through thoughtful, contemporary adaptation.
Sustainability
This project prioritised sustainability by reusing the existing structure and key features, reducing construction waste. Upgrading rather than replacing elements—such as the staircase and sauna—minimised environmental impact. Natural light, indoor-outdoor flow, and durable materials like terrazzo and zinc promote longevity, comfort, and energy efficiency in everyday living.
