P House
A collaboration between Marston Architects and Katie Uther Interior Designs, the P house is a transformative reimagining of an existing semidetached dwelling. Nestled within a quiet, thickly vegetated street above Chinamans Beach, the steep, north-facing site enjoys both abundant sunlight and a delightful outlook to Middle Harbour. As such, the main design strategies involved modifying the circulation and planning of the existing house to maximise amenity.
On the ground floor, a new entrance foyer was created by reorienting the stairs to the first floor. The kitchen was relocated to the north, linking it directly to the living and dining areas. With its high volumes and large format sliding doors, the open-plan living space spills seamlessly onto the external deck, creating a greater feeling of space internally and capturing the expansive views beyond. A soft palette of materials complements and enhances the experience of the surrounding greenery and outlooks.
Sustainability
Openings have been positioned to ensure ample access to northern sunlight and ventilation from cooling prevailing breezes. Further, these openings can be protected by external blinds and shutters, allowing for greater control over the management of thermal comfort through seasonal changes.
