4 Union Street, Mosman

Already making a historic and architectural contribution to the heritage character of the area, this project sought to retain, reinstate, enhance and celebrate this Federation Queen Anne home. As well as restoring its original features, an existing contemporary rear extension was reimagined and a second living level was nestled within the soaring roof space.

Within the home, where the original and the modern elements converge, the design has elegantly reinterpreted and recreated the rich historic details to allow the spaces to flow seamlessly. Restored in a contemporary colour palette, this character extends throughout the home and property and graciously reminds us of the longevity of the place and its ongoing contribution to its environment and community.

A true asset to Mosman’s built environment, this project beautifully reflects how our heritage places can be respectfully reimagined and how historic and the contemporary spaces can be gracefully united.

Sustainability

Retaining and restoring the historic fabric of the home reduced resource and material consumption during construction and embraced the embodied energy within the building. With deep wrap-around verandahs, the home enjoys passive solar shading with natural cross ventilation. Solar panels and electric vehicle facilities were installed to offset energy usage.
