Raglan House

Recognised as a local heritage item that makes a historic contribution to Mosman’s built environment, it was important for this project to sympathetically and respectfully integrate contemporary lifestyle choices with the existing heritage character of the home.

As well as retaining, enhancing and celebrating its Federation Arts and Crafts features, its history formed the foundation for the design and its historic features served as inspiration in the contemporary design decisions that were made. The original staircase was preserved and refurbished and the existing archways were continued throughout the house to provide a considered and appropriate design link between the old and new spaces.

This project artfully displays how our heritage places can be respectfully and creatively reimagined. Grounded in its history, this carefully designed home delicately merges its past chapters with modern living to ensure the home continues to be a valuable asset to Mosman’s built environment.

Sustainability

Retaining the historic fabric reduced resource and material consumption during construction and embraced the embodied energy within the building.

Carefully integrating the historic character of the home into the refurbishment has lengthened the lifespan of the building and will ensure the ongoing use and enjoyment of this significant heritage item
