Mosman House
This new family home replaces a constrained freestanding dwelling on a steep Mosman block, reimagined as a three-storey residence that balances traditional charm with contemporary living.
Originally intended as a renovation, the project evolved into a complete knockdown-rebuild after spatial and planning constraints limited the potential of the existing structure. The new design addresses these challenges head-on—embracing slope, outlook, and Council controls to create a U-shaped floor plan centred around a serene fountain courtyard.
High ceilings, arched windows, and handcrafted detailing sit alongside sunken lounges and open-plan interiors, delivering layered spaces with character and flow. Built-in joinery, window seats, and generous glazing foster light, warmth, and family connection.
The home opens to both front and rear gardens, anchoring the design in nature. The result is a timeless, light-filled home tailored for a young family—one that offers beauty, function and enduring adaptability.
Sustainability
This new build maximises site-responsive design: orientation, thermal mass, and cross ventilation reduce energy use, while solar panels and rainwater harvesting further support sustainability. Landscaped gardens and deep soil zones enhance biodiversity. The home’s considered scale, setbacks and material richness contribute positively to the character and quality of the Mosman streetscape.
