55B Prince Albert Street

This design is an excellent example of a contemporary scheme being seamlessly fitted into a streetscape consisting of traditional houses and apartment blocks dating from the 1920’s to the 1980’s.

The design enhances the layout of the original single storey house, and creates a spacious interior that derives its inspiration from the Scandinavian architecture of Alvar Aalto.

The house presents an external form that builds on the original, with the addition of the first floor and the use of original external finishes including painted brickwork, rendered masonry, sandstone, glass, zinc and timber cladding.

At ground level the house wraps around the north facing garden terrace, while the first floor living spaces are oriented towards views of Sydney Harbour, and open onto a large roof terrace.
