The project involved major alterations to an irregular shaped 1970’s house that was originally based on a hexagonal module.

Whilst the existing shell was retained, the exterior was streamlined by removing the numerous indentations in the roof projections. The office-like glazed external façade was punctuated and articulated with the use of cladding panels, louvres, screens and a pergola to create domestic proportions and provide sun protection and privacy. The base was simplified and strengthened to present a podium and enhance the residential scale.

All internal walls were removed to create new rectilinear spaces that reflect the external modifications. The pool was reshaped to consolidate the fragmented outdoor areas. And a new open plan living-dining-kitchen area opening to the pool, creates a well-integrated indoor-outdoor living space. Landscaping was increased to soften the appearance. The house now fits extremely well into its contemporary context and the streetscape has been positively enhanced.
