This ‘interwar deco’ house contributes to a setting of nearby similar houses with bow-shaped rooms, tile roofs and steel ribbon windows. The front sandstone wall has a local heritage listing.

This renovation left largely untouched the two wings. The informal living area is in between the two wings and incorporates a large void and stair. The centrepiece of the house is the grand stair with a masculine balustrade created from recycled timber. The balustrade bridges the wall from inside to out and externally is wrapped in copper.

The green Marseilles roof tiles match and copper gutters were installed. The cypress pine floor was replaced with recycled narrow width second hand timber flooring.

The new bedroom repeats the window details of the wings below, but is placed asymmetrically to show it’s not original. Sandstone of a similar colour was used.

One arm of the circular driveway was closed for a Peter Fudge garden.
