The house has been designed to sit comfortably between two other large new houses, without feeling over-bearing or excluding access to sunlight or overshadowing its neighbours.
The two-storey part of the house is contained on the western boundary, allowing the open-plan living area to have a high ceiling and abundant natural light, carefully framing views to the pool, garden and terrace without compromising on privacy.
The large outdoor terrace, extends the living area and takes advantage of the leafy outlook beyond and natural slope of the site, affording greater privacy to the occupants.
The architectural form of the house has been expressed by using a combination of rendered masonry and timber. The garage and terrace form a strong masonry base, on which the light-weight construction of the upper storeys sit. The bedroom wing is clad in stained Australian hardwood, to break down the overall height and mass of the building.
